Madison Mutual Aid Events 8/22-8/23

Please join us as we begin a month-long Mutual Aid Solidarity Sprint tour from right here in Madison, and explore how mutual aid can help our local businesses, organizations, and neighbors thrive. Hosted by our local Madison Mutual Aid Network cooperative.

We’ll be joined by solidarity economy practitioners from UK, New Zealand, and around our own country and community.

Thursday August 22, 4-6pm at the Social Justice Center, 1202 Williamson

Mutual Aid in Enterprise

We’ll look at a few tools that could help us make life easier (like common funds to defray cash flow crunches, or health care costs, or emergency needs; mutual credit between businesses to increase liquidity; the Common Good payment card), discuss the outstanding needs of participants, and how we might explore applying some ideas here at home.

We’ll serve a little food and kids will be welcome (there’s a separate room with toys and art supplies if they’re restless in the meeting space).

Please rsvp. If you can’t make this session there will be plenty of opportunities to engage.

Celebration of Sina and Solidarity roundtable

Our celebration is for Sina Davis, and her wonderful contributions to cooperation and solidarity. The Forward Marching Band will give her a New Orleans style send off like we saw together when we went on our fantastic field trip. And we’ll have some more music that you can participate in.

The roundtable is focused on Common Funds for community investment and joyful wealth redistribution. We’re ready to get that going and would love to have it create a sharing bridge between our 2 neighborhoods, Willy Street and Allied Drive.

I hope you can make it. Please spread the word. We’ll have food to share as well, and the space will be kid-friendly.

Then some of us will hit the road for a month to learn deeply, and we’ll come back in late September to start implementing whatever we collectively choose.

Friday September 27, 4-6pm at the Social Justice Center

We’ll report back from the road for the first half of our gathering, then give an overview of the Madison MAN Cooperative‘s current projects and governance, and elect our Board of Directors (current Directors are signers of the Articles of Incorporation). Interested in running? Reply to this email.

Yes, that’s a lot. Hope to see you at some of it!
